today my wai-po, my grandma, passed away. she was an incredible woman who passed onto me her stubbornness and her love of cats. she woke up at 5 am every morning to do martial arts and swordfighting. she had a lovely, raspy laugh that came easily, especially when her cat did something funny. she was also clever to her last breath.
it seems like only a second ago my mom was telling me this story about the time, a few months ago, when my grandmother swindled a swindler. I wanted to pay homage to her instead of being too too sad, because she had a great sense of humor. I remember saying to my mom after she told me the story that it would make a great comic, and I finally drew it. my only regret is that I didn’t draw it sooner.
wai-po, you were a total badass and a world-class troll. I hope to see you again someday.

it’s okay Lydia, we’ve all been there.
this is based off a silly story my co-worker told me: she lived in an old row house during college, and there was a ghost there who liked to record “Criminal Minds” and “Chopped”. no matter how many times they deleted the recordings, they always returned. my coworker also canceled their service, but it continued. finally, she phoned the cable company, which confirmed her cancellation, and she and her housemates decided to leave the poltergeist alone and let it watch its shows.

It's an Angry Girl Comics and Fascinasians DOUBLE WHAMMY. and no less important: GB Tran!

Hi guys! The facebook invite for the event I’m speaking at next Friday is finally up, so make sure to RSVP:

AAWA along with CEAMS would like to announce their April Event: Drawing the Asian American!

Asian American artists and writers have risen to prominence as creators of sophisticated graphic novels, many of which explore cultural identity and social issues. In this panel, we will explore activism through illustration and the current industry environment with our special guest speakers G.B. Tran (“Vietamerica”) and Wendy Xu (“Angry Girl Comics”).

With our event, there will also be free food, refreshments, raffle prizes and the opportunity to purchase autographed merchandise will be available, so be sure to come check it out!

I hope to see you all there!

Also, how very appropriate that Juliet and I would be doing an event together on our friendversary! we met one year ago at NYCAASC!
