thanks a lot for calling me sweet :) I really appreciate you took the time to answer me. I've actually been asking myself why some alternative fashion communities seem to be so filled with hate, body shaming and racism. Gyaru isn't much better, but I have to admit I have experience only with these two subcultures, so no idea if it something happening also in other fashion subcultures. I love my lolita friends, but it's true there is a lot of nastiness going on in the community, especially online
you’re welcome!
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people are so desperate to feel “special” & they either haven’t discovered or aren’t cognizant of other identities they could possibly have that they want to make the group as exclusive as possible? Either way I think if clothes or dress are the only way someone has to feeling “special”… well, they need to reexamine things, right?
on the whole, fashion communities are kind of the same as other communities and they’ve got the same kinds of internalized prejudices and issues. at least, that’s what I’ve seen!
